Vegetables May Lower Risk Of Breast Cancer

March 9th, 2010

A new study says eating a lot of vegetables, fruits and soy may reduce your chances of getting breast cancer by up to 30 percent.

The University of Colorado studied 34,000 Chinese women. Those who ate more vegetables, fruits and soy had decreased risks of developing breast cancer. Doctors say that these findings should be similar in North American women too.

The study split eating habits into two groups: meat-starch-saturated-fat and vegetable-fruit-soy. Of the 34,028 women studied between 45 and 74 years old, 629 developed breast cancer over 10 years. They found that the more vegetables, fruit and soy the woman ate, the lower her risk of breast cancer became. They didn’t find that eating more meat caused cancer.

The doctors interview by Canada.com didn’t suggest that women become vegetarians. Instead, they say women should just eat their vegetables. They recommend having a diverse diet. Try to eat as much vegetables, fruit and soy as possible.

MAC Cosmetics Soars Thanks To Lady Gaga

March 4th, 2010

Lady GagaMAC Cosmetics is thanking Lady Gaga for being the face of their Viva Glam promotion, because the makeup company has seen its sales soar since she took over.

Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper joined MAC Cosmetics last year for the Viva Glam products in support of MAC AIDS Fund. In just one month, MAC sold over $1.1 million dollars worth of the Viva Glam line. The first batch of lipsticks sold out in three days.

All proceeds from the sales go to the MAC AIDS Fund so this is an incredible feat for the company. They estimated the Viva Glam line could make up to $35 million this year. That is a $10 million increase over last year.

The Viva Glam products are two lipsticks inspired by the spokeswomen. The Viva Glam Cyndi lipstick is a light coral red and the Viva Glam Gaga is a cool blue-pink. Both of the lipsticks are $16.50 online and in MAC stores.

This is a great cause and MAC customers have pulled through for the cause. Don’t stop now.

Spring Makeup & Hair

March 4th, 2010

With winter on its way out (thank goodness), it’s time to think about makeup and hair care for spring/summer 2010. Celebrity hair stylist Tony Masciangelo and top Canadian makeup artist Diana Carreiro spoke with the Vancouver Sun and offered their top tips and tricks for the coming seasons. For the full article, click here.

longhealthyhair2Q: What hairstyles are you seeing for spring?
TM: The current looks are long, healthy hair. The silhouettes are simple and wearable. To achieve these looks, you can round brush your hair (after applying mousse) to create volume. This will create a soft, sexy, bouncy blow-out. I suggest using Nexxus Maxify Volumizing Foam Styler. What this does is leaves you with really fresh, clean, easy, springtime kind of hair.

Q: Are there any must-have hair accessories?
TM: Definitely decorative elastics that will help you create a more playful look as seen in the Prada campaign, which featured pigtails. There is a youthfulness with hair that is going on. We see a lot of headbands in many soft colours such as rose, nude and salmon.

Q: What looks are you seeing when it comes to makeup?
DC: Orangey, red lips are big. It’s one of those colours that looks lovely with a tan or with pale skin. Mary Kay lip nectar in mango is really nice. It’s a sheer orangey-red, a little bit glossy, and it’s user friendly. Pink is also big for spring. The pink cheeks and pink lips combo is what makes it fresh for this year. I’d recommend Benetint rose tinted lip and cheek stain. It creates a pretty look and is a very versatile two-in-one product.
