In today’s beauty news, according to the Vancouver Sun, Canadians are putting their money where their mouths are. The cosmetic market for lip enhancement is growing at a fast rate in Canada with more and more women and men seeking ways to enhance their pout.
In just five years, the lip moisturizer market has grown by nearly 40 per cent, while medical lip procedures are gaining in popularity among men and women alike. Procedures like upper-lip hair removal, permanent lip colour and lip products designed to plump and enhance are also on the rise.
Maureen Greenstein, a Toronto makeup artist, spoke with the Vancouver Sun and said that although injectable fillers and lasers for lines around the mouth can cost upward of $1,000, and require repeat visits, she believes the home teeth-whitening craze acted as a kind of gateway drug for many Canadians. “That was when everybody started becoming more conscious of their lips,” she explains. “Some of these products really give you back what nature has taken away — without making you look like a duck.”
Dr. Jaggi Rao, associate clinical professor of dermatology at the University of Alberta, says there are even lip procedures now that can make a person appear more approachable. “People are becoming more knowledgeable that this is available, whereas before, they thought: ‘There’s nothing I can do. This is just the way I look.’”
If you’re interested in enhancing your lips (like many celebs), fillers are a popular way to go with products like Restylane and Juvederm among the most popular. If you’re a little afraid of going the surgical enhancement route, you can always try out lip plumpers. With countless of them on the market, it’s definitely easy to find one. Real Style Network picks include all-time favourite Lip Venom, Smashbox O-Plump and Lip Fusion XL.

The beauty department at Glamour is spreading the word about a new nail trend called Blackberry Bling.
To Blackberry Bling, you paint your thumbs a flashy color that’s different from the rest of your nails, so they stand out as you type on your Blackberry or other mobile device. It’s meant to draw attention directly to your thumbs.
Would you actually try this at home? We think it might work for teen girls, but not so sure about soccer moms.

Its that time of year when body butters are used almost daily to moisturize and pamper dry, winter-weary skin. We at Real Style Network thought we would share our favourite body butters for those of you that love to indulge in bath & body products.
The Body Shop is legendary for their body butters and the selection is quite large. They offer body butters in three skin types; normal, normal to dry and dry to very dry. Our favourites in each category include:
Pink Grapefruit for Normal Skin – This one is fresh, tart and perfect for a morning pick-me-up! It moisturizes well and leaves your skin fragranced with the light scent of grapefruit. For those of you that love grapefruit scents, this one is a no brainer.
Wild Cherry for Normal to Dry Skin – The newest body butter is Wild Cherry. It’s rich and decadent! Great absorption into skin and the wild cherry seed oil helps moisturize patchy dry skin.
Cocoa Butter for Dry to Very Dry Skin – This one is a classic! Cocoa Butter Body Butter is great for everyday use and softens and smoothes rough, dry skin. It smells tropical and light and is great for those of you that love the smells of cocoa butter and vanilla.
Fruits & Passion is a great option for those of you that seek unique bath & body care options. Our favourite body butter is the Fruity Quenching Butter for the Body. It’s enriched with shea butter and will leave your skin soft and scented with a distinct fruity/floral fragrance.
Sephora is also known for their large range of body butters. The Sephora branded body butters are rich and surprisingly strong. They also contain shea butter and beeswax to help moisturize and protect skin. Our favourites include Apple Pomegranate Body Butter, Riviera Blue Body Butter and Vanilla Cupcake Body Butter (we love this scent!).

In today’s beauty news, 15 year old entrepreneur Ava Anderson has just launched her own line of natural, chemical free skin care products.
What’s special about this brand is that it’s the first ever skin care line in which every ingredient in every product scores ZERO on the Cosmetics Database toxicity scale. Ava also sells the product via teens. Similar to the Avon model, she has teenage employees sell the products to their friends.
Ava’s first six skin care products are built around a core cleansing and moisturizing routine that everyone can use. Ava’s products are filled with truly safe ingredients, providing gentle cleansing, moisturizing, conditioning, nourishing and protection of your skin.
“A year ago, I first learned from a news report about the health risks of the chemicals I was putting on my face and body every day,” Ava Anderson said. “I couldn’t stop thinking about it and I was frustrated when I discovered that despite ‘natural’ and ‘organic’ claims, many products sold as healthy alternatives still contained questionable ingredients, especially when you realize how many chemicals can be hidden under the ‘fragrance’ ingredient listing.”
To get more information on this great new line, visit avaandersonnontoxic.com.

The teeth whitening craze has been going on for the past couple of years and shows no signs of slowing down. With many people desperate for a beautiful celebrity white smile, the options for teeth whitening are plentiful.
The most drastic step to take in teeth whitening is having your teeth professionally whitened or capped at a dentist (i.e. Zoom Whitening). Zoom Whitening is a scientifically advanced teeth whitening procedure. Safe and fast, all it takes is a couple of hours and your teeth will be visibly whiter. Zoom Whitening is ideal for anyone looking for immediate results.
Teeth whitening home kits are also quite popular and certainly cheaper than a procedure at your dentist. Home kits and pens are designed to help you get a white smile more gradually while in the comfort of your own home. Popular products for at home use include the new Celebrity Sexy Teeth Pen and Idol White Teeth Pen.
The Idol White Teeth Whitening Pens are endordsed by the Kardashian sisters and on the Idol White site Kim Kardashian writes, “I love that I can get professional results at home without spending thousands at the dentist”. The product is quite easy to use. Just twist the Idol White Pen to dispense whitening gel and brush the gel onto your teeth. Wait 60 seconds for the ingredients to do their work and then rinse. Use twice per day.
Another long time favorite? Crest Whitestrips. Put the whitestrips on twice per day for 30 mins and have a great smile in a couple of weeks. With many different types of Whitestrips, you can get the look of white teeth easy and quickly.
With so many options and so many fans, the white teeth craze will no doubt be around for awhile.
