MAC Cosmetics Soars Thanks To Lady Gaga

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Lady GagaMAC Cosmetics is thanking Lady Gaga for being the face of their Viva Glam promotion, because the makeup company has seen its sales soar since she took over.

Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper joined MAC Cosmetics last year for the Viva Glam products in support of MAC AIDS Fund. In just one month, MAC sold over $1.1 million dollars worth of the Viva Glam line. The first batch of lipsticks sold out in three days.

All proceeds from the sales go to the MAC AIDS Fund so this is an incredible feat for the company. They estimated the Viva Glam line could make up to $35 million this year. That is a $10 million increase over last year.

The Viva Glam products are two lipsticks inspired by the spokeswomen. The Viva Glam Cyndi lipstick is a light coral red and the Viva Glam Gaga is a cool blue-pink. Both of the lipsticks are $16.50 online and in MAC stores.

This is a great cause and MAC customers have pulled through for the cause. Don’t stop now.

Kate Hudson Hair Care

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

katehudsonKate Hudson has been receiving a lot of positive pr for her recent looks at high profile awards shows like the Golden Globes and SAG Awards. From her hair to her gowns, she’s been looking fantastic.

Back in 2009, we featured Kate’s hair care collection on our blog. It’s a collection she created with her hairstylist David Babaii. The collection is titled David Babaii for WildAid. We have since tried the collection and have become big fans of the David Babaii for WildAid Shampoo and Conditioner.

Initially the David Babaii for WildAid line caught our interest because of its natural, eco-friendly concept. This hair care line is free of sulfates, parabens and toxic petrochemicals. The products are not tested on animals, but on Kate Hudson herself.  The line is made from an exclusive blend of exotic and wild, natural and renewable ingredients including Blue Algae, White Ginger, Cupuacu Butter and Volcanic Ash. Its already achieved great acclaim winning numerous awards including “Best Green Hair Care” brand by InStyle Magazine and the “2009 Reader’s Favorites” hairspray category winner for the Mise en Plis Extra Hold Styling Spray by New Beauty Magazine.davidbabaiiwildaid11

With 10% of the profits going to WildAid (the global wildlife conservation organization www.wildaid.org) it’s just another great reason to give this line a try. The collection is available in both Canada and the United States and can be purchased through RiteAid, Ulta, The Shopping Channel and a variety of other retailers.

Kate Moss Goes Grey

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

At last night’s Kate Moss for Longchamp launch party Kate sported a new grey blond bob. Her hair was very layered and her traditionally blonde hair was spiked with grey streaks. With her tanned skin, it didn’t look bad, but we didn’t love it.  It makes her look older than her 36 years of age.

Grey hair has been seen on the recent runway shows with Chanel’s spring collection featuring models with grey streaks.

According to Hello Magazine, it isn’t likely the look will catch on. The technical director at Richard Ward’s salon spoke to the magazine and said, “Grey hair is draining on the complexion,” he says. “Ashen colour absorbs light, rather than reflecting it, so it can be very dulling.”

Jane Fonda Goes Back to Her Fitness Roots

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

In today’s beauty news, Hollywood icon Jane Fonda has announced that she’s currently in the process of releasing two new fitness videos. Jane is 72 years old!

The new videos will be released in early 2011 and will feature Jane working on fitness routines suitable for the baby boomer and senior citizen crowds. Jane recently said, “My new DVD will target an audience that has been left out: My age group and the boomers. I want to get to people who have stopped working out, or never did. I can’t wait.”

On her Janefonda.com blog, she wrote: “What should I wear? Curious to hear from you about this. These folks I’m working with can do these productions with their eyes closed. I have to laugh when I think of when I did the first ever…still the biggest selling video of all time. We had no budget, no hair stylist or makeup artists. We did it all ourselves. I wrote the script on a ski trip in Calgary on the floor of my hotel room.”

Celebrity Beauty News Rundown

Monday, January 18th, 2010

jessicabielReality star Heidi Montag has received a lot of press recently over her plastic surgery addiction (featured on the cover of People Magazine).  Celebrities have come out slamming the young wannabee singer citing her actions in promoting plastic surgery as “irresponsible”.  The latest star to criticize Heidi is Emily Rossum who wrote on her twitter that it “upset her to see young women in the spotlight advocating plastic surgery.  Any surgery is extremely dangerous and should not be taken lightly, much less used as a tool to increase notoriety or popularity.”  Heidi’s next surgery?  She plans to get her breasts enlarged again.

Jessica Biel is on the cover of the February edition of Vogue and in the accompanying interview is quoted as saying the following, “When I see myself in pictures with makeup on, even to this day, I think it looks weird.  My eyes get squintier and smaller.  On the red carpet, I’m playing a character.  As soon as I get off that thing I think, Oof, wipe that gloss off.  I’m wiping and wiping and pulling my hair out and trying to change my outfit.  I’m immediately trying to get comfortable.  It’s really a part I play.”

Victoria Secret model Miranda Kerr recently opened up to PopSugar Australia about her beauty and diet secrets.   Her exercise regime?  She has studied hatha yoga for more than 10 years and said, “Yoga is so important to me. I’ve been doing it for a long time now and I’ve taken it to a fairly serious level. My teachers tell me they’ve never seen a back bend like mine!  Her take on skin care?  Miranda recently launched an organic skincare line called Kora by Miranda Kerr and the products are made of her favourite juice; noni juice, which is derived from a shrub in Tahiti.  She says, “I’ve been drinking noni juice for the last 12 years, my grandparents introduced it to me.  I am not the same without it - it does incredible things for my skin.”  For the full article, click here.

Golden Globes Beauty

Monday, January 18th, 2010

drewbarrymore1In today’s beauty news, the Golden Globes were every bit as glamorous as we at Real Style Network expected.

When it came to beauty, many of the actresses opted for minimalist updos (some messy, some more chic).  This was an especially flattering and smart look considering the rainy weather.  Drew Barrymore, Marion Cottilard, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Nicole Kidman were just a few of the stars who opted for an updo.  Not surprisingly, many stars actually skipped the red carpet altogether to avoid the poor weather.  The stars who did stick it out on the red carpet found that their updos were generally safe and their gowns were only mildly spotty (the Beverly Hilton supplied umbrellas to all celebrities prior to arriving on the red carpet).

Another beauty trend spotted on the carpet?  Dark nails.  Stars like Marion Cottilard, Jennifer Aniston, and Gabourey Sidibe all sported dark nail polish which complimented their black and jewel tone gowns.

Soft pink lips and natural, porcelain skin were also big trends with stars like Julia Roberts, Kate Hudson, Chloe Sevigny and Kristin Bell all sporting natural, rosy makeup.  The one star beauty look we didn’t love?  We thought Fergie was a little overdone with her tanned ski and flat brown hair (although her periwinkle Elie Saab gown was lovely).  We think she would have benefitted from a chic updo and a little less self tanner.  For more info on Golden Globe fashions, check out our fashion blog here.

Halle Berry Launches Second Fragrance

Monday, January 11th, 2010

In today’s beauty news, actress Halle Berry has just released her second fragrance titled Pure Orchid.

pureorchidThe floral, woody scent features notes of jungle cactus flower, lemon, blackberry creme, star anise, masdevallia orchid, giant sequoia and patchouli.  Currently, the new fragrance is available only at Wal-Mart.  Does this seem odd to you?  We always envisioned products by Hollywood top actresses to be featured at high-end department stores like Barneys and Sephora, not necessarily Wal-Mart.  We assume the idea is to appeal and sell to mass market and potentially make more money.  If you’re interested, Halle Berry Pure Orchid is available in Eau de Parfum (15 ml) for approx $16.

In other fragrance news, 2010 will mark the launch of many celebrity fragrances including scents by Rihanna, Kanye West, singer Fergie, Eva Longoria, Sean John, Gwen Stefani, Shakira, another fragrance by Jennifer Lopez titled Blue Glow by JLO and another fragrance by  Sarah Jessica Parker called SJP NYC.

A New Fragrance from Kim Kardashian

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

kim-kardashian2

In addition to starring in her own reality show, co-owning clothing boutique Dash, launching a career in producing and acquiring a growing number of endorsement deals, the ever popular Kim Kardashian has just released the new ad campaign for her newest business venture – her very own fragrance.

Kim partnered up with Lighthouse Beauty to create her own signature scent, which according to her, has been a dream of hers since she was a child.  She recently told WWD, “Collaborating with Lighthouse Beauty was a really creative, innovative process.  What’s so different about their approach is that they have worked closely with me on all aspects of my fragrance, the bottle, the juice, and even our distribution strategy so I can develop a product that truly represents me and speaks to my fans.  Because of their commitment to including me in the process, the fragrance really captures who I am.”

The new beauty ad is already causing a buzz for its sexy, retro style look.  The scent itself contains notes of jasmine, gardenia, tonka bean and sandalwood among others.  Want to get your hands on the new scent?  Expect to pay approx $65 for a bottle.

The fragrance will be available exclusively at Sephora starting next month.
