Snoop Dogg in Debt to IRS

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Rapper and actor Snoop Dogg is in hot water with the one group of people you don’t want to have problems with; the IRS. Last year, he was in debt to the IRS for $284,000 and he’s once again in trouble. Snoop and his wife are now being fined an additional $598,309 in back taxes.

The demand was submitted by Internal Revenue Service (IRS) bosses at the Los Angeles County Recorder of Deeds on January 19, reports the Detroit News.

Hopefully Snoop has the money to pay off this latest debt. His new album “More Malice” (a follow-up to his recent album “Malice in Wonderland”) is due in a couple of months.

50 Sexiest Songs Ever

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

If you are looking for something to set the mood for Valentine’s Day night, Billboard released their list of the 50 Sexiest Songs of All Time. The list is made up based on how well the song did on the Billboard charts.

So you are wondering what was number 1? Olivia Newton-John’s 80’s hit “Physical” topped the sexiest songs of all time. You may laugh, but the song was so racy it was banned in South Africa.

The top 10 includes Rod Stewart’s “Tonight’s The Night,” “I’ll Make Love To You” by Boyz II Men, “Too Close” by Next, “Let’s Get It On” by Marvin Gaye, “Hot Stuff” by Donna Summer, Captain & Tenille’s “Do That To Me One More Time,” “Like A Virgin,” by Madonna, “Kiss You All Over” by Exile and “Do You Think I’m Sexy?” by Rod Stewart. Wow, two Rod Stewart songs in the top ten.

So load up your iPod and have a Happy Valentine’s Day.

Restraining Order Extended for Courtney Love

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

It was widely reported in December that Courtney Love had lost all legal control over her daughter with Kurt Cobain, Frances Bean Cobain. Now we hear that the restraining order put in place in December has been extended until April 2010. Clearly Frances Bean wants nothing to do with her mother and is being public with her concerns.

Courtney isn’t exactly a warm, maternal figure and her on/off love affair with hard drugs has always been a concern.  The past couple of years have been more disturbing than usual for Courtney with countless rants on twitter, the throwing of a “suicidal sweet sixteen party” for her daughter and her claims that Britney Spears had been molested by her father Jamie Spears.

We actually feel very badly for Frances Bean and hope Courtney gets the help she clearly needs in order to be a better mother and role model for her daughter. For now, Frances Bean is in the custody of her paternal grandmother and paternal aunt (mother and sister of Kurt Cobain).

John Mayer Apologizes For Playboy Remarks

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

We told you earlier this week about John Mayer’s very open interview with Playboy magazine. He crossed the line a few times. Now the singer is publicly apologizing for his “quest to be clever.”

At a concert in Nashville, John Mayer apologized to fans saying that he lost his way in trying to be “clever” and”witty.” He got teary in thanking his band for sticking with him. He said he is “out” of the media game.

John Mayer also apologized to fans on his Twitter for using the N-word in the Playboy interview. He said: Re: using the ‘N word’ in an interview: I am sorry that I used the word. And it’s such a shame that I did because the point I was trying to make was in the exact opposite spirit of the word itself. It was arrogant of me to think I could intellectualize using it, because I realize that there’s no intellectualizing a word that is so emotionally charged. And while I’m using today for looking at myself under harsh light, I think it’s time to stop trying to be so raw in interviews… It started as an attempt to not let the waves of criticism get to me, but it’s gotten out of hand and I’ve created somewhat of a monster. I wanted to be a blues guitar player. And a singer. And a songwriter. Not a shock jock. I don’t have the stomach for it. Again, because I don’t want anyone to think I’m equivocating: I should have never said the word and I will never say it again. I just wanted to play the guitar for people. Everything else just sort of popped up and I improvised, and kept doubling down on it…

This means no more interesting, strange interviews with John Mayer… for a while.

John Mayer – Jessica Simpson Was My Drug

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Jessica SimpsonOnce again, John Mayer is talking about his personal life and it’s way too much information for our taste. In the upcoming March issue of Playboy Magazine, he talks about life with both Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson, as well as his sexual likes and dislikes, love of porn and attraction to other women including actresses Holly Robinson Peete and Kerry Washington.

When asked about Jessica Simpson and their fling he said, “I really said, I now make the choice to sleep with Jessica Simpson.” That was stronger than my desire to stay out of the paparazzi’s eye. That girl, for me, is a drug. And drugs aren’t good for you if you do lots of them. Yeah, that girl is like crack cocaine to me.” When asked to elaborate about being addicted to Jessica he said, “Sexually it was crazy. That’s all I’ll say. It was like napalm, sexual napalm.”

When asked about Jennifer Aniston, he confirmed their intense feelings for each other and denied that the relationship ended due to his constant tweeting and sharing of personal info.

Beyonce Gets a Baby Brother

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

BeyonceFans of Beyonce were shocked when her parents Mathew and Tina announced their divorce after 29 years of marriage. Tina is well known as the designer for Dereon, a clothing line she launched with her daughter Beyonce and Mathew runs a successful music management company (and manages his daughter).

According to recent reports, the reason for the separation is that Mathew was having an affair with actress Alexsandra Wright. She gave birth last Thursday to his love child and is now demanding child support. Mathew himself is demanding a paternity test before agreeing to pay child support.

Mathew Knowles has had a lot of business and personal challenges this past year. Both Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland (both of Destiny Child) left his music management company due to “creative and personal differences”.

Rumour has it, Beyonce has also distanced herself from her father and plans on taking a six-month break from the business to relax.

We Are The World To Debut At Olympics

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Since news broke that every big name singer around would be collaborating on a remake of We Are The World for Haiti, people have been searching to find out who will sing the song. It’s been announced that the song will debut at the Vancouver Olympics Opening Ceremonies on February 12th.

Wyclef Jean, Celine Dion, Pink, Natalie Cole and many, many more got together on Monday to re-record We Are The World. The talent spanned from music legends (Barbra Streisand) to new artists (Justin Bieber) to those that aren’t even actually singers (Vince Vaughn and Nicole Richie). We will all have to wait until next week to hear the song for the first time and see how they did.

If you can’t wait that long, Simon Cowell’s slightly less star studded charity remake of “Everybody Hurts” goes on sale on February 7th. The song was released to radio yesterday. If you are a fan of the original version, you will be pleasantly surprised at how it sounds.

Hear “Everybody Hurts” featuring Mariah Carey, Leona Lewis and more here:

Lady Gaga, Elton John & Pink Performances Shine At The Grammy Awards

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Beyonce Knowles

Last night on the Grammy Awards the performances really outshone the actual awards.

Lady Gaga and Elton John started the show with an interesting and great performance. After doing parts of her own songs solo, Lady Gaga and Elton teamed up for a mash up of her song “Speechless” and Elton John’s “Your Song.” It shouldn’t have worked, but in their matching sparkling glasses it did.

Pink gave it her all for a performance people will be talking about. In a sheer bodysuit that was very Cher-like, Pink did some aerobatics over the crowd dripping water over all of the stars in their red carpet gowns. While it sounds odd, it was moving.

Celine Dion, Usher, Smokey Robinson, Jennifer Hudson and Carrie Underwood teamed up for the Michael Jackson tribute in 3D. I’m sure it looked great in 3D, but those of us without glasses were left out and stuck watching the oddly coloured screen. Watching Beyonce rock out in 3D glasses was worth it though.

Most of the usual suspects picked up an award. Instead of one big artist sweeping all categories like expected, since Taylor Swift has won everything else, the Grammy Awards were for once handed up to people who actually deserved it. Beyonce was the night’s big winner taking home six statues. “Single Ladies” won Song Of The Year and Kanye West wasn’t even there to see it. Kings Of Leon took home Record Of The Year for their single “Use Somebody.” Best new artist was country band The Zac Brown Band. Taylor Swift did win some awards. She won Album Of The Year for Fearless and is the youngest person to ever win that honour.

Black Eyed Peas Accused Of Stealing Song

Friday, January 29th, 2010

FergieSinger Phoenix Phenom is suing the Black Eyed Peas for allegedly stealing her song.

Phoenix Phenom claims that her song “Boom Dynamite” was stolen illegally and used to create the Black Eyed Peas huge hit “Boom Boom Pow.”

“Boom Boom Pow” was played everywhere when it first came out, so what took Phoenix Phenom and her co-writer so long to run to the lawyers and file this claim? These types of lawsuits can be tricky and you have to really have a good basis before you go accusing a band as big as the Black Eyed Peas of theivery.

Here is the video for Phoenix Phenom’s “Boom Dynamite.” Let’s take a listen and see if they are the same.

So, what do you think? Other than the fact that both songs say boom a lot, I’m not sure they are anything alike.

Hope For Haiti Touches The World

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

The thoughts of North America were with Haiti last night as Hollywood celebrities got together for the Hope For Haiti telethon.

Live from New York, London and Los Angeles, Hope For Haiti had numerous outstanding and touching performances from some of the biggest stars today. Just a peek at the celebrities answering the phones will give you a hint as to the size of this event. Leonardo DiCaprio, Julia Roberts, Steven Spielberg, Colin Farrell, Reese Witherspoon, Tom Hanks and Robin Williams are just a snippet of the celebs answering phones.

Huge musicans performed on the show including legends like Neil Young, Madonna, Sting, Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder alongside new talent Taylor Swift, John Legend and Jennifer Hudson.

The hottest performances of the night came from surprising places. Shakira’s version of “I’ll Stand By You” was great, as was Justin Timberlake’s version of “Hallelujah” and the original track by Bono, Jay-Z and Rihanna. The duet of Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow and Keith Urban singing “Lean On Me” somehow really worked.

This isn’t about how good they sounded though. This is about raising money for Haiti, so if you enjoyed the singing, as I did you should try to head over to iTunes and buy some of the songs you heard instead of downloading them for free later.

Here is Justin Timberlake’s duet with Matt Morris:

“We Are The World” Remake For Haiti Coming Soon

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Yes, you read that right. Reports have surfaced that Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie are getting together a celebrity packed remake of “We Are The World.”

The singers were already planning to re-record the song for it’s 25th anniversary, but now with the crisis in Haiti, the timing, unfortunately, is perfect. Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie are inviting singers and celebrities to stay an extra day after the Grammy’s on January 31st to record a new version of “We Are The World.”

Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich is rumoured to be producing the song and Usher, Natalie Cole and John Legend have been asked so far. The word will spread fast though and singers will sign up to be a part of history soon.

The Sun reports that Simon Cowell also wants to record a charity single for Haiti. Singers Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Wyclef Jean and Robbie Williams have reportedly signed up. He will probably tap into his X-Factor, Britian’s Got Talent and American Idol pool of singers as well.

For nostalgia’s sake, lets watch the video for the 1985 version of “We Are The World.”

Rihanna Performs Redemption Song On Oprah

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

RihannaOprah had a special episode yesterday dedicated to the people of Haiti.

Rihanna will be performing with Jay-Z and Bono on Friday night’s telethon Hope For Haiti hosted by George Clooney.

Bono and Jay-Z have teamed with producer Swizz to record a brand new song which will also be sold on Itunes to raise money for Haitian relief efforts after the telethon. They will probably be performing it live at the telethon first. Knowing the standard of Bono and Jay-Z this track will probably be amazing.
